LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Bruno Mars has officially accepted a plea deal in his Las Vegas drug case.
The 25-year-old singer, whose real name is Peter Hernandez, pleaded guilty Wednesday to a felony cocaine charge that would be wiped from his record if he stays out of trouble for a year, the Associated Press reports.
A Clark County district judge sentenced Mars to probation, a $2,000 fine, 200 hours of community service and drug counseling. The judge scheduled a Jan. 18, 2012 court date for Mars to return at the end of his probation.
The plea deal has been in the works for weeks.
The "Grenade" singer was arrested on Sept. 19, 2010 after security at the Hard Rock Hotel confronted him in a bathroom and found him holding 2.6 grams of coke.
Mars won best male pop vocal at Sunday's Grammy Awards for his breakout hit, "Just the Way You Are." He'll soon be co-headlining the "Hooligans in Wondaland Tour" with Janelle Monáe. The tour will kick off on May 4 at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City.
