NEW YORK – Catherine Zeta-Jones sought mental health treatment after supporting husband Michael Douglas' stage 4 throat cancer fight, her rep revealed Wednesday to People magazine.
"After dealing with the stress of the past year, Catherine made the decision to check [into] a mental health facility for a brief stay to treat her Bipolar II disorder," said the star's rep in a statement. "She's feeling great and looking forward to starting work this week on her two upcoming films."
Zeta-Jones, 41, spent about five days at the unidentified facility, a friend of the actress told the mag.
"There's no question it's been a stressful year," her pal said. "Catherine has had deal with Michael's illness and that's been hard. She went in for a few days because she's about to start working, and wanted to make sure she's in top form, which she is."
Douglas revealed his cancer diagnosis in August. He said in January that his tumor was gone after months of radiation and chemotherapy treatment, during which he lost a reported 32 pounds.
This is the latest setback for the family. Douglas and his ex-wife have been clashing in court over his "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps" earnings. In addition, the actor's son, Cameron Douglas, was sentenced to five years in prison last year after pleading guilty to drug charges.
