HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — British actor Henry Cavill has been cast as Clark Kent/Superman in the upcoming movie reboot of the storied franchise, Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures announced Sunday.
"In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen," said the film's director, Zack Snyder. "I also join Warner Bros., Legendary and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry. He is the perfect choice to don the cape and 'S' shield."
Cavill, 27, is best known for playing Charles Brandon on Showtime's The Tudors. He recently wrapped shooting The Cold Light of Day, in which he co-stars alongside Bruce Willis and Sigourney Weaver. In addition, his action flick Immortals will be released later this year.
The new Superman film is scheduled to hit theaters in December 2012.
