HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Jennifer Grey may have won season 11 of Dancing With the Stars, but her victory came with a painful price.
The 50-year-old star will undergo surgery for an injury sustained during her race for the mirror-ball trophy, she revealed Tuesday.
"I ruptured a disc, and I'm gonna go home today and I'm probably gonna have surgery this week or sometime next week," Grey tells Access Hollywood. "It's just gonna be like a little surgery where they take out the ruptured disc thing, and you know, it won't be a big deal."
The Dirty Dancing star is used to overcoming health problems. She has long suffered from neck problems as the result of a 1987 car accident, in addition to a battle with a thyroid cancer.
"Compared to the other surgeries I had on my neck, my doctor says it won't be a big deal," she says of the latest setback. "I'll be home that night."
Grey and pro partner Derek Hough were crowned champions on last week's season finale of DWTS. She says the sweet taste of victory was worth another trip to the operating room.
"I got to tell you, the win and the experience of doing – more the experience of doing Dancing with the Stars – already, like I don't even remember the pain I was in a week ago," she says. "I just have some discomfort in [my] back that needs to be taken care of ... Okay, it's a little more than discomfort."
