Alicia Keys hit many high notes — and then some — with the first-ever live performance of her new single, “Girl on Fire,” at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards, held Thursday evening in Los Angeles.
The Grammy-winning icon rocked the Staples Center with a sexy, yet intimate, performance of the mid-tempo song, which she performed toward the end of the telecast.
Helping Keys make a true TV moment were Nicki Minaj, who sings a rap verse on the track, and Olympic champion Gabby Douglas, who tumbled and leaped across the stage as well as she did at the 2012 London Games.
The song will be featured on Keys’ upcoming CD, out sometime soon.
