HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Rihanna and Matt Kemp have split after nearly a year of dating, a source close to the singer has revealed.
"It happened over the last few weeks," the insider tells Us Weekly of the breakup. "She basically was just over it."
"He just can't keep up with her crazy travel schedule," the source added of the Los Angeles Dodgers star. "Matt's sick of always following after her like a puppy dog all over the world. He wants something more normal."
Rihanna, 22, and Kemp, 26, first made headlines in January when they were photographed together while vacationing at a luxury resort in Cabo San Lucas. She confirmed the relationship for the first time months later during an interview with Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS-FM show.
"It's new, and it's fun, and it's nothing too serious, you know," she said at the time. "I don't want anything that's going to take up so much of my energy and time right now in a bad way. I just want to have fun, and that's what it's about."
Kemp was Rihanna's first serious boyfriend after she split with R&B star Chris Brown, who famously assaulted her in February 2009.
