DALLAS — A pair of dogs helped Bud Light and Doritos tie for the best 2011 Super Bowl commercials in USA Today's 23rd annual Ad Meter.
The Bud Light ad, which aired late in the game's fourth quarter, featured a dog sitter who gets the canines to cater his party. It earned a first-place tie with an ad that showed a guy paying the price for teasing a pug dog with a bag of Doritos.
Coming in third place was a spot for Volkswagen's Passat, in which a young kid in a Darth Vader costume believes he started the family car with "the Force" — completely unaware that his father made hit happen by remote control from the kitchen.
Two Hyundai ads were voted the worst commercials during the broadcast, just outlasting another sexy GoDaddy spot featuring Danica Patrick and Jillian Michaels.
The newspaper assembled 282 adult volunteers in Bakersfield, Calif., and McLean, Va., and electronically charted their reactions to ads as they aired during Super Bowl XLV.
