Celebrities playing fashion designers is not a new concept (all you have to do is click here to see that it’s now weirder not to have a clothing collection if you’re a celeb), but the latest famous face with design aspirations probably was not on your list of “next to launch a line.” Antonio Banderas announced today that he’s moving to London to study at the prestigious design school, Central Saint Martins (whose alumni include the likes of Stella McCartney, Zac Posen and Alexander McQueen, just to name a few!).

The 54-year-old Spanish actor revealed his new plans on British talk show ITV’s Loose Women explaining, “It’s something that has been on my mind for a long time and probably one of the best schools in the world is here, Saint Martins University, and so I am going to start studying with them.”

He noted that it may “take a while,” but added, “I need knowledge to take steps in that territory in the future. It makes me feel actually very young to put the elbows on the table again and try to understand another reality.”
Even though his time will be preoccupied with his studies, he’ll still make time for acting. “Of course I won’t stop my professional life, I’ll continue acting, directing, but this is a new thing,” says Banderas.
While this isn’t the most shocking celeb-turned-fashion-enthusiast news we’ve heard (remember Sean Avery’s Vogue days?), we can’t wait to see where Banderas takes his new career. Will he start his own clothing line? Take the reigns at an established fashion house? Partner with Ryan Seacrest on his suit line? Only time will tell. (Though he may want to hedge his bets: According to Kanye West, Central Saint Martins doesn’t want their students to be too famous.)
