Even Celebrities Freak Over a 'Tiffany Blue Box' Moment: 'You Don't Even Care if There's Air in There'

By Celebrity News Wire on April 18, 2016

Security was tight (think Men in Black style) at the Cunard Building in downtown New York City on Friday night for Tiffany & Co’s annual Blue Book Gala, as there were millions upon millions of dollars worth of diamonds and jewels inside. But these precious stones weren’t hunkered behind glass cases or locked in safes in the basement—they were happily prancing around the historic building, draped on the necks, wrists and ears of the A-list guests, including Reese Witherspoon, Naomi Watts, Jessica Biel, Diane Kruger and more.

Reese Witherspoon herself was freaking out over the $10 million necklace and $100,000 earrings by Tiffany & Co that she wore to accessorize her J. Mendel gown.

“I looked at this necklace for the Oscars and I was obsessed with it, but I didn’t think it was the right moment to wear it,” she said. (She opted to skip the necklace altogether and go for earrings and a cuff that night.) “[Tiffany & Co.] said, ‘Do you want to come to the Blue Book party and you can wear it?’ And I said, ‘Yes, can I?’ It’s a fantastic aspect of my job that I never tire of.”

The elaborate affair featured a set by soulful musician Esperanza Spalding, a dance performance choreographed by Beyoncé’s go-to gal, Luam Keflezgy, as well as a photo booth area filled with Little Blue Boxes (sadly, they were empty, we checked). Seeing so many LBBs in one place was enough to send any fan of Tiffany blue over the edge. Therefore, we had to ask the stars: What was the most memorable Little Blue Box moment you’ve ever had?

“I’ve definitely received a few blue boxes that have really blown me away,” said Witherspoon. “But the first most impactful one was from a high school English teacher who gave me a silver pen when I graduated. I still have it. It was very meaningful to me, because she was my favorite teacher.”

Meanwhile, Watts, who donned a diamond cuff worth $575,000, reminisced about a piece long gone. “My first one was a little French knot bracelet when I was very young, which sadly was stolen from me, and I was horrified,” she said. “It was in my early twenties, and it was my first big moment, it was pretty big.” But husband Liev Schreiber is making up for it. “Recently, I had a lovely blue box moment from Liev,” she said. “He gave me the T bracelet in rose gold which I loved very much.”

Jessica Biel, who finished her all-white look by The Row with a $1.5 million Tiffany & Co. necklace featuring 2,500 diamonds, revealed her first gift was a Tiffany key the company gave her. “The little box showed up, and you don’t even care if there is air in there, you are thrilled,” she said.

And Diane Kruger was living her best Tiffany moment that night. “This is the biggest piece of jewelry I’ve ever worn in my entire life!” she exclaimed of her gorgeous necklace made of aquamarine, tanzanite, green tourmaline and diamonds.

But Kruger’s most memorable blue box wasn’t one that she got, but one she gave. “I gave my mom, for her sixtieth birthday, I got a heart shaped diamond pendant from Tiffany,” she said. “I’m from the countryside in Germany. She’s never even seen a Tiffany store or set foot in one. And that box is so iconic. And I remember her seeing the gift and opening the box and immediately start crying. It was really sweet. And she wears it every day. It’s one of those things, you can’t go wrong with Tiffany.”

Which of these pieces would you most want to wear? Tell us in the comments below!
