Colin Farrell was born in Castleknock, Dublin. Following his early studies at St. Brigid's National School Castleknock, Farrell attended both Castleknock College and Gormanston College. He was a promising goalkeeper during his youth, starring for the Dublin team, Castleknock Celtic.
Farrell went on to attend the Gaiety Drama School in Dublin. In 1998, he then won the role of Danny Byrne on the BBC television series "Ballykissangel," in which he starred for two seasons. He would make his first big impression stateside as a rebellious military recruit in the 2000 war movie "Tigerland."
Two years later, Farrell cemented his stardom, starring alongside Forest Whitaker in "Phone Booth." He also joined Bruce Willis in "Hart's War" and appeared alongside Tom Cruise in Steven Spielberg's "Minority Report."
Since achieving fame in the U.S., Farrell has gone on to star in such films as "The Recruit" (2003), "S.W.A.T." (2003), "Alexander" (2004), and "Miami Vice" (2006).
