HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — A&E is pulling the plug on Patrick Swazye's cop drama, "The Beast."
The network officially canceled the series Monday after only one season. The show, which debuted in January, ended its run in April after averaging 1.3 million viewers.
The 56-year-old Swayze was diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer early last year, but refused to let his illness stand in the way of a gruesome shooting schedule. Soon after being diagnosed, he spent five months shooting "Beast," in which he starred as an undercover agent. Amazingly, he only missed 1½ days of work after shooting began last July.
"I think everybody thought I was out of my mind, you know, thinking I'm gonna pull off a TV show," Swayze told Barbara Walters in a televised interview last year.
A&E President Bob DeBitetto called Swayze's acting performance "an inspiration to us all," but told The Associated Press that "after careful deliberation we have reluctantly decided not to attempt a second season."
