DETROIT — Aretha Franklin's son has been hospitalized after being severely beaten Monday night at a gas station in Detroit.
Eddie Franklin, 52, was undergoing emergency surgery on Tuesday at a Detroit-area hospital after being attacked by two men and a woman, a rep for the singing legend told the Detroit News.
The assault reportedly took place at a station near Plymouth and Evergreen. All three of the attackers were African American, with the female believed to be about 19 years old.
An unidentified person at the station took the Queen of Soul's son to the hospital after the incident before filing a police report, authorities told the newspaper.
Franklin, 68, is one of the most popular singers in American history, having won 20 Grammy Awards over the course of her distinguished career. In 1987, she became the first female artist to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
