HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — It was love at first sight for The Bachelorette's Ali Fedotowsky and Roberto Martinez, who sealed their romance with a proposal on the ABC show's season finale Monday night.
As it turned out, there was little drama when the 25-year-old Fedotowsky offered her final rose. That's because she broke up with fellow finalist Chris Lambton before going on a final date with him.
"I'm in love with somebody else," she told Lambton. "I have to let you go here and not wait till tomorrow."
The heartbroken Lambton responded in true gentleman fashion.
"Thank you for being honest," he told her. "Good luck tomorrow. Go find out tomorrow if he loves you."
As it turned out, she wouldn't need any luck because Martinez was ready to propose.
"You told me how important it was for your husband to love you unconditionally and to always be by your side no matter what," a nervous Martinez, 26, told her. "I want to be that man for you. I want to make you laugh. I want to make you smile. I want to make sure you wake up every morning for the rest of your life knowing that you are so, so loved."
Fedotowsky then let the former baseball player in on a little secret.
"You're the only guy here today," she told him. "I love you so much."
And with that, Martinez got down on one knee and proposed with a Neil Lane diamond engagement ring, which Fedotowsky happily accepted.
"Oh my gosh! Yes! Yes!" she said.
With their relationship now out in the open, the couple plans to live together in San Diego, where Martinez is moving his insurance business from South Carolina. They haven't set a wedding date yet, but it's a hot topic for them.
"Maybe next summer," Martinez said on the show's After the Final Rose special. "I'm just looking forward to enjoying that normal life and kind of having that normalcy and enjoying each other."
