HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Beyoncé Knowles is finally opening up about her April wedding to music mogul Jay-Z, saying it wasn't a shock that the longtime lovers finally decided to walk down the aisle.
"We've been together a long time," the 27-year-old singer shares in the November issue of Essence. "We always knew it would happen."
Knowles and her 38-year-old hubby, who have been together since 2002, married in a private ceremony on April 4 that was followed by a lavish party at Jay-Z's Tribeca apartment. The "Crazy in Love" singer says the wedding was an intimate affair because she is not a "traditional woman."
"It's been my day so many days already," she tells the magazine.
Knowles, whose new album drops Nov. 18, also reveals that the size of her engagement ring was never a concern.
"People put too much emphasis on that," she tells Essence. "It's just material and it's just silly to me."
While she has been seen wearing a $5 million diamond ring by Lorraine Schwartz, Knowles tells the magazine that she wears a band on her ring finger over a tattoo of the Roman numeral IV, while Jay-Z sports a matching tattoo on his ring finger (Knowles' birthday is Sept. 4 and Jay-Z's is Dec. 4).
Jay-Z recently hinted that babies are in the future for the couple, telling reporters at the U.N. Global Leadership Awards Gala in New York City: "Most people dream of having a family someday, so I'm just a regular American boy."
"What Jay and I have is real," Knowles tells Essence. "It's not about interviews or getting the right photo op. It's real."
