HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Billy Bob Thornton was back in the interview chair earlier this week, this time explaining what happened when he last fielded a few questions from a talk-show host.
The 53-year-old actor paid a visit Tuesday night to the "Jimmy Kimmel Show," where he attempted to explain his bizarre behavior earlier this month during an interview with Canada's public CBC Radio.
"The fact that that was news was astounding to me, but it gave hump back geeks all over the world something to do for a couple days days," Thornton said of his controversial interview, which was to promote his band, the Boxmasters. "It astounds me. First of all, I do that all the time. It's not the first time."
The "Sling Blade" actor has previously explained that he warned the CBC host, Jian Ghomeshi, not to quiz him about his acting career. He told Kimmel that the very same situation happened years ago during an interview in Germany when a female host crossed the line with her questioning after being forewarned.
"This woman said something she wasn't supposed to say, and I said I received signals from Venus through a metal plate in my head," Thornton explained.
Following that interview, Thornton said his phone started ringing with friends wondering if he was alright. His response back to them was simple: "I told a DJ to kiss my ass, that's all that happened."
On the day after the recent CBC interview, Thornton and his band were booed while opening for Willie Nelson. They later canceled the remainder of their Canadian tour.
