HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Bob Saget is still being a protective father.
The comedian has jumped to the defense of his former "Full House" costars Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen after his comic pals went overboard poking fun at the 22-year-old twins on his upcoming Comedy Central roast.
At one point during the special, which airs Sunday, comedian Jeffrey Ross quipped, "Mary-Kate and Ashley were supposed to be here tonight, but they heard there was food," alluding to Mary-Kate's well-publicized eating disorder in the past.
"Anybody who talks about my TV kids — that upsets me," Saget said in a statement. "I am very protective. I love them very, very much."
While he remains close with the Olsens, the 52-year-old Saget admitted he's grown tired of answering questions about the twin stars, who shared the role of his daughter Michelle on the long-running ABC sitcom.
"It gets old," he told the Associated Press. "It can get a little bit exhausting. It's really not about anything.
"It kind of makes me really just want to go and read the news... and then go to a movie. Or do some cardio."
When asked if he's ever had the urge to sit down for a real life heart-to-heart with them, Saget said their relationship is "not like that."
"A lot of the conversations I have with Ashley and Mary-Kate have been (them saying), 'No, I really like her, she's a really good girlfriend' or, 'You should try that, I think that'd be good for you.' That's the truth," he told AP. "So it's kind of reversed."
