LOS ANGELES — Brad Paisley scored six nominations to lead the field for the upcoming Academy of Country Music Awards, organizers announced Wednesday.
Paisley, fresh off winning two Grammy Awards last Sunday, will once again compete for the coveted entertainer of the year trophy. He's also up for male vocalist honors, an award he won last year.
Former Trick Pony vocalist Heidi Newfield, who released her first solo album last year, followed with five nominations, including top female vocalist. In addition, her track, "Johnny & June," will compete for best single and song of the year honors.
Carrie Underwood was nominated for three awards. The former "American Idol" winner was the sole female entry for entertainer of the year.
Joining Paisley and Underwood in the field for entertainer of the year will be Kenny Chesney, George Strait and Keith Urban.
The Academy of Country Music Awards will be held on April 5 in Las Vegas and be televised by CBS.
