HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Brad Pitt is pitching in to stop a California ballot initiative that would ban same-sex marriage.
The 44-year-old actor has donated $100,000 to fight California's Proposition 8, an initiative that would take away the right for same-sex couples to marry in the state.
"Because no one has the right to deny another their life, even though they disagree with it, because everyone has the right to live the life they so desire if it doesn't harm another and because discrimination has no place in America, my vote will be for equality and against Proposition 8," Pitt said in a statement.
In May, a state high court ruling struck down California's laws against gay marriage. California's Supreme Court ruled that people have a fundamental "right to marry" the partner of their choosing, thus making the previous ban on gay marriage unconstitutional.
Currently, California and Massachusetts are the only two states that recognize same-sex marriages.
