HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Contrary to reports, Brad Pitt won't be joining the cast of "Sherlock Holmes."
Warner Bros., the studio behind the upcoming Guy Ritchie film, is shooting down a report in London's Daily Mirror that claims Pitt is joining the cast as Moriarty, the detective's arch enemy.
"The report in today's London Mirror is completely inaccurate," the studio said in a statement. "Brad Pitt is not joining the cast of 'Sherlock Holmes' and we're extremely pleased with the production of the film."
Warner Bros. also dismissed a claim by the Mirror that the film's release date was being pushed back in order to accomodate Pitt joining the cast.
"As planned, it will be released on Christmas Day, 2009," said the studio. "In order to complete the movie, we've scheduled a few days on set to shoot a couple of additional scenes, obtain pick-up shots, and perfect some of the visual effects elements, all of which is standard filmmaking practice."
Ritchie and Pitt have a history together, having teamed up in the 2000 film "Snatch."
Pitt next stars in Quentin Tarantino's "Inglorius Basterds," which arrives in theaters this weekend.
