HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Britney Spears says much has changed since early 2008 when she was involuntarily hospitalized twice for psychiatric reasons.
“I feel like an old person now,” the 26-year-old singer reveals in the upcoming issue of Rolling Stone, due out Friday. “I do! I go to bed at, like, 9:30 every night, and I don’t go out or anything.”
“I just feel like an old fart,” she adds.
With the help of her father, Jamie, Spears has bounced back quickly. She now has visitation rights to see her two sons, Sean Preston, 3, and Jayden James, 2, after losing custody to her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, during the turmoil.
“Every time they come to visit me, I think about how they’re such special people,” she tells the magazine.
The pop star currently has her children three days a week, which includes one overnight stay.
“They’re obsessed with monsters, and every night we look outside, and we have to show them that there’s no monsters out there,” she says.
Spears admits that her life suddenly changed when she and Federline split in 2007.
“I didn’t think my husband was gonna leave me,” she tells the mag. “Otherwise, I’d be with my babies 24/7. But since they’re almost like twins, they both take care of each other.”
The ongoing tension between Spears and her ex becomes clear as she continues to talk about their children, both of whom are now in preschool.
“I think they look like me,” she says. “They don’t look like their father at all. And it’s weird ’cause they’re starting to learn words like ‘stupid,’ and Preston says the f-word now sometimes. He doesn’t get it from us. He must get it from his daddy. I say it, but not around my kids.”
Spears’ new album, “Circus,” is due out on on Dec. 2 — her 27th birthday. The album’s first single, “Womanizer,” has been slowly climbing the charts and the Louisiana native tells the magazine that she has a unique way of knowing if a song has hit potential.
“You just hear it, and you’re like, oh, my God, if somebody else takes this song, you’re gonna kill yourself,” she says.
