MIAMI — Britney Spears gave several sick children a day to remember over the weekend.
The 27-year-old pop star made a surprise visit to Miami Children's Hospital on Saturday, where she raised the spirits of 40 sick children, according to the Miami Herald.
The hospital is one of 19 pediatric centers in the country offering the Big Apple Circus Clown Care program, which brings the joys of the big top to hospitalized children.
With Spears in town as part of her ongoing "Circus" concert tour, the opportunity for her to make a difference seemed to be a perfect fit. Lee Schrager, the Director of Media for Southern Wine and Spirits America, and hospital pediatric radiologist Ricardo Restrepo helped make the visit possible by reaching out to a mutual friend involved with the singer's tour.
"It all happened quick, and the next thing we know, we got the call saying Britney Spears was coming to the hospital," Schrager told the paper.
Spears arrived at the hospital around 3:30 p.m. with her dad, Jamie. She posed for pictures and left after about 10 minutes in order to prepare for her show later that evening at the America Airlines Arena.
In addition to her personal visit, Spears also donated $100,000 to the Big Apple Circus Clown Care Program.
