HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Brittany Snow is opening up about her early eating disorder struggles, giving credit to her BFF Sophia Bush for helping to save her life.
"I was going through a difficult time, and she was going through a difficult time figuring out the whole Chad [Michael Murray split] thing," the Prom Night star reveals in the May issue of CosmoGIRL!, according to UsMagazine.com.
"We had so many slumber parties where she held my hand [as we worked] through a lot of different things," Snow continues. "When somebody can be there through something like that, they're a friend forever."
The 22-year-old Snow says two of her friends died as a result of an eating disorder, which left her "devastated" and wanting to open up about her own personal struggles with the disease.
"I have so many girlfriends who are not even in Hollywood who struggle with eating disorders — Sophia and Amanda [Bynes] are the only two people I know who are happy with their bodies," she says.
The actress says she's thankful she dealth with her nine-year battle with anorexia in her early years, particulary since she chose a career path that places so much importance on physical appearance.
"I think everybody wants to be popular, especially out here in Hollywood," Snow says. "Thank God I went through all of that so early, in middle and high school, to realize it's not about being popular or cool — it's about being who you are."
