LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Bruno Mars has been charged with felony cocaine possession stemming from his arrest last month in Las Vegas.
The singer and songwriter was arrested on Sept. 19 after security at the Hard Rock Hotel confronted him in a bathroom and allegedly found him holding 2.6 grams of cocaine.
The 23-year-old star, whose real name is Peter Hernandez, had performed a show at the hotel in the hours before his arrest.
If convicted, Mars faces up to four years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
He is scheduled to be arraigned on Nov. 18.
In a brief statement, his label, Elektra Records said: "We congratulate Bruno Mars on his chart-topping success, and provide him with our full love and support."
Mars recently scored his first hit single in "Just the Way You Are." Prior to that, he was best known for co-writing and singing the hook on B.o.B.'s "Nothin' On You" and Travie McCoy's "Billionaire."
The young star's debut album, Doo-Wops & Hooligans, drops Tuesday.
