HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Emilio Diaz, the father of actress Cameron Diaz, died unexpectedly Tuesday after developing a case of pneumonia, TMZ reports. He was 58.
According to TMZ, the star's father came down with a bout of the flu, which then turned into pneumonia. His sudden death is described as "shocking" due to what is described as traditionally-good health.
Diaz's father was a second generation Cuban-American. He had a small part in his daughter's hit film "There's Something About Mary."
The actress was born in San Diego, Calif., but her family later moved up the coast to Long Beach, where her father worked for an oil company.
Diaz went to Long Beach Polytechnic High School, where her classmates included rapper Snoop Dogg.
The 35-year-old star has been shooting her upcoming film "My Sister's Keeper." However, production has been halted due to her father's death, sources told TMZ.
