HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — A couple of star players are moving on from the Dillon Panthers.
According to Entertainment Weekly, series standouts Gaius Charles and Scott Porter are no longer under contract and will play a limited role in the upcoming third season.
"Pete Berg, myself and our fellow producers have enormous respect for Scott and Gaius both as actors and individuals. In short, we love them," the show's executive producer, Jason Katims, tells EW. "However, both of their characters have now graduated and in the creative spirit of the show, we have decided to give them powerful four episode arcs that will observe their characters as they launch themselves into the next phase of their lives."
Charles, 25, starred as running back Brian "Smash" Williams, while Porter, 28, played ex-starting quarterback Jason Street, who was left paralyzed from an injury in the show's first season.
While the news may come as a disappointment to the NBC show's loyal fans, Katims says all is not lost.
"We certainly will keep the door open for both actors to return in the future, depending on the actors' availabilities," he tells EW. "We know both Scott and Gaius will go on to have enormous success and we wish the best for both of them."
