ASPEN, Colo. — Charlie Sheen was formally charged Monday with felony menacing stemming from a Christmas Day incident in which he allegedly held a knife to his wife's throat during a holiday getaway.
The Two and a Half Men star also faces misdemeanor charges of third-degree assault and criminal mischief. Sheen, who did not enter a plea, is due back in court March 15.
Sheen, 44, and his wife, Brooke Mueller, 32, both appeared at the Aspen, Colo. hearing, in which the judge modified a protective order that had prohibited the couple from seeing each other.
"Charlie and Brooke kissed and hugged and looked pretty happy to get beyond this hurdle," Mueller's lawyer, Yale Galanter, told People magazine. "They are on their way home to Los Angeles together."
"They finally got their restraining order lifted. They're finally able to communicate," added Sheen's attorney, Richard Cummins. "You can imagine how hard it is to be married and not have any communication for some time. They're heading out to California so they can they work on their issues between them, and take care of their children and move forward with their lives."
Sheen was arrested after the couple got into a domestic dispute while spending the holiday in Aspen. Mueller, who placed the 911 call that landed her husband in jail, told police that the actor pinned her on a bed while holding a knife to her throat.
"My husband had me with a knife," Mueller is heard telling the dispatcher on the 911 call. "I was scared for my life and he threatened me."
Mueller and Sheen, who tied the knot in May 2008, welcomed their first children, twin boys, last March.
