HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Charlie Sheen's wife Brooke Mueller has checked into a North Carolina "wellness program" after being hospitalized last week for pneumonia.
Attorney Yale Galanter tells People that Mueller has entered a "facility where she can rest, rest, rest" and get "competent medical care for her mind and body." The news comes after several published reports claimed the 32-year-old Mueller went straight to rehab for a drug and alcohol problem after being released from the hospital on Monday.
"Brooke did not enter a drug rehab program," Galanter told the mag. "She has been drug free for six months. Since Christmas day, she has been assaulted by her husband, almost lost her life, and developed pneumonia. She was released from the hospital a couple of days too early, so she needs to be somewhere doctors can treat her if necessary."
Mueller is reportedly being treated at the Two Dreams Outer Banks facility.
Sheen, 44, was arrested when the couple got into a domestic dispute while spending the Christmas holiday in Aspen, Colo. He was charged with second-degree assault and menacing, both felonies, along with criminal mischief, a misdemeanor. The actor was later released after posting $8,500 bond and is due in court on Feb. 8 for a hearing on whether to modify the protective order against him.
Mueller and Sheen, who tied the knot in May 2008, welcomed their first children, twin boys, in March.
