HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — While he doesn't believe he has an "anger problem," Chris Brown says he's willing to keep an open mind when it comes to fulfilling his court-ordered counseling and anger-management classes.
"If I do, I will work with my counselor and hopefully channel my anger into something like dancing," the 20-year-old R&B star reveals in the latest issue of People.
Brown, who was formally sentenced last month to five years of probation and six months of community labor service for beating his ex-girlfriend Rihanna, is planning to learn from his mistake.
"I don't think I would get that mad again," he tells the mag. "I want to be a man, so I have to be more responsible .... I'd rather walk away."
The "Kiss Kiss" singer also says that he is looking forward to his mandated counseling.
"I want to understand my feelings," he says. "I want to find out what really transpired as far as me that night. Sometimes when you're young you don't know how to express [your emotions], so I think it actually would be helpful to talk to a counselor or to somebody who has an expertise in what those [feelings] are."
While he's eager to learn, Brown says he's upset that some people have already lost faith in him, including Oprah Winfrey. Brown says he was upset when the media mogul dedicated a show "to all the Rihannas of the world."
"I commend Oprah on being like, 'This is a problem,' but it was a slap in my face," he says. "I did a lot of stuff for her, like going to Africa and performing for her school. She could have been more helpful, like, 'OK, I'm going to help both of these people out.' "
