LOS ANGELES — R&B star Chris Brown is under investigation for an alleged attack against an unnamed woman early Sunday morning, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to Reuters.
Police say Brown got into an argument with the woman as they sat in a parked car in the city's Hancock Park neighborhood shortly after midnight.
"After stopping his car, Brown and the woman got out and the argument escalated," the LAPD said in a statement. "The woman suffered visible injuries and identified Brown as her attacker."
The LAPD received a 911 call reporting the disturbance. When officers arrived they found the victim, but Brown had already left the scene. He is currently being sought by authorities for questioning.
Many have speculated that the unknown woman in the attack is Brown's longtime girlfriend, fellow R&B singer Rihanna. Both stars were scheduled to perform at Sunday's Grammys, but a statement released late in the day announced that Rihanna would not be in attendance.
"We have just been informed that Rihanna will not be attending tonight's 51st Annual Grammy Awards. We're sorry she is unable to join us this evening," read the statement.
