HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Chris Brown's attorneys have requested a closed-door hearing to discuss the singer's alleged assault of his girlfriend Rihanna, the Los Angeles Times reports.
Spokeswoman Jane Robison of the Los Angeles district attorney's office confirmed to the paper that her office had received the request from Brown's legal team and that a hearing had been set for March 23. That date is two weeks before Brown is scheduled to be arraigned.
According to the Times, the case has been moved to the courtroom of Judge Patricia Schnegg, the same person who signed the search warrant leading to the details surrounding Brown's alleged Feb. 8 assault of Rihanna.
A source told the paper that the hearing will center around potential witness testimony in the case. With regards to Rihanna testifying, her attorney, Donald Etra, previously told People that she would "do everything that the law requires her to do."
Brown was charged last week with two felonies — assault and making criminal threats. If convicted, the R&B star faces anywhere from probation to a maximum four years and eight months in state prison.
On Wednesday, the 19-year-old singer withdrew his name from the ballot for the upcoming Kids' Choice Awards, in which he received two nominations.
