NEW YORK — Howard Stern sidekick Artie Lange has been hospitalized in New Jersey for an undisclosed ailment, according to E! News.
"We can confirm that Artie is in the hospital," the comedian's rep said in a statement. "Artie has chosen to keep all information on this matter between him and his doctor. There will be no further comment."
Lange, 42, has been missing from Stern's satellite radio show since early December. He's long battled substance abuse problems, a topic he's frequently discussed on air.
The MADtv alum has also canceled several recent stand-up gigs, including a New Year's Eve engagement at the Borgata Casino in Atlantic City. According to his website, Lange's upcoming performances in late January and February have also been called off.
Lange's 2008 book Too Fat To Fish made the New York Times bestseller list.
Stern returns to the air Monday after his holiday hiatus.
