HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Corey Feldman says he was shocked by the sudden downfall of his relationship with wife Susie Sprague, who filed for divorce last week after seven years of marriage.
"Corey is deeply hurt and saddened by this unexpected change in their relationship, and has done nothing to contribute to the demise of the marriage," the actor said in a statement to People.
While the split came as a surprise, Feldman added that he remains "hopeful that he and Susie can work to resolve this quickly and amicably, and he is fully committed to doing what is best for the welfare of their son."
Sprague filed for divorce on Oct. 22 in Los Angeles, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the breakup.
Feldman, 38, and Sprague, 27, tied the knot on Oct. 30, 2002 in a wedding officiated by MC Hammer and a rabbi. The nuptials aired on the inaugural season of VH1's The Surreal Life.
Sprague is seeking sole custody of their 5-year-old son Zen, with visitation rights granted to Feldman. She is also seeking an unspecified amount of spousal support.
