LONDON — British fashion designer Alexander McQueen left a note and then hanged himself at his London home, British coroners revealed Wednesday.
McQueen, 40, died from asphyxiation and hanging. Officials have yet to rule his death as a suicide, but police said there were no suspicious circumstances. The contents of the note McQueen left behind were not revealed.
Full details of McQueen's autopsy are expected to be available within a few months, officials said.
McQueen's body was discovered in an armoire last Thursday, the day before his mother's funeral. Prior to his death, McQueen had posted several messages on Twitter in which he expressed the pain over his mother's death. In one message written days before he died, he said it had been an "awful week."
The fashion icon's death has cast a shadow over London Fashion Week, which opens on Friday.
