HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — "The Dark Knight" captured five honors Wednesday night, topping all winners at the 35th Annual People's Choice Awards.
The Batman film was named favorite movie and favorite action movie. The film's star, Christian Bale, was named favorite superhero and also received an honor for favorite on-screen pairing, along with the late Heath Ledger.
Country singer Carrie Underwood also won big. The former "American Idol" winner won three times, picking up awards for favorite female singer, country song "Last Name," and star under 35 years-old.
"Fans and people voting for me are what gave me a career in the first place," said Underwood, who also kicked off the evening with a performance of "I Know You Won't."
"This is an amazing night," added the 25-year-old singer.
Other winners selected by Internet voters in categories covering movies, television and music included Will Smith for favorite male movie star and Reese Witherspoon for favorite female movie star.
The awards show was hosted by Queen Latifah and held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
