HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — David Arquette says he is still torn even though his marriage to Courteney Cox has been on the rocks for some time.
"It breaks my heart," the 39-year-old actor said of the couple's split when he called into Howard Stern's Sirius show Tuesday. "I've been begging Courteney to get back with me."
So what went wrong? For starters, Arquette said Cox had grown tired of his immaturity.
"She said to me, 'I don't wanna be your mother anymore,' " he shared. "I appreciated that. I respected that. I've been going to therapy. I'm trying to grow up."
He also revealed the twosome had stopped having sex.
"She's in a place of wanting to be real and emotional," Arquette explained. "She's an emotional being. She's an amazing woman. If it doesn't feel right, she doesn't feel like bonding in that way."
Arquette admitted that he had been intimate with L.A. cocktail waitress Jasmine Waltz, but said it was after he became "a single man." He denied rumors that cheating played a part in the couple's marriage trouble.
The hardest part of the separation? Telling their 6-year-old daughter, Coco.
"We went to a beach and had a picnic," Arquette recalled. "[I] explained to her that we're grownups, and a lot of the time when grownups are growing up, they need to figure out their lives. ... Sometimes that takes each other having a little space."
Coco immediately thought the worst, asking: 'Are you guys getting a divorce?' " To which Arquette replied: "I said, 'No, We're not getting a divorce, we're just taking some time apart to get to know ourselves better and get to know what we want out of our mate better.' "
