HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — David Caruso is being sued by a former girlfriend who claims the "CSI: Miami" star skipped out on several promises to care for her even after their relationship ended.
Liza Marquez filed the lawsuit Thursday in Los Angeles Superior Court. Her suit states that the pair started dating in April 2004. They eventually moved in together, but Caruso ended their nearly four-year relationship just two days after the birth of their second child in October 2007.
Marquez alleges Caruso promised to care for her even after the end of the relationship. She is is seeking more than $1.2 million and a house, plus punitive damages for fraud and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
In a statement to Access Hollywood, a rep for Caruso argued the lawsuit is retaliation for the 53-year-old star requesting changes to the couple's custody arrangements.
"Last month David became concerned about the welfare of his children and sought court assistance to redefine David's and Liza's custodial schedules," read the statement. "It now appears that Liza has decided to retaliate by raising false claims against David, which David finds unfortunate since these claims will divert the parties' and the court's attention away from the best interests of the children."
