HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — With a new reality show to promote, Denise Richards has plenty of incentive to keep herself in the news. Then again, she and her ex-husband, Charlie Sheen, have never shied away from firing shots at one other.
The latest missle comes from Camp Richards, as the 37-year-old actress now says Sheen recently sent her text messages attacking her father and mother, who recently died of cancer.
"Last week, I sent Charlie a text message asking him if he's going to Family Day [for daughter Sam's school] and letting him know Sam was sick with a cold," Richards told the New York Post.
"His response was, 'I hope you and your worthless retarded father get cancer and join your stupid mom. Rot in hell you [bleeping] whore,'" Richards claims. "My mom died of cancer. This is what I deal with on a weekly basis.
"He missed Dad's day at the school, and my father had to go in his place. And this is how he talks to me?"
Sheen and Richards married in 2002 after meeting on the set of the ABC sitcom "Spin City." They have two daughters together, Sam, 4, and Lola, who turns 3 on June 1.
Richards filed for divorce while she was six-months pregnant with Lola in 2005.
The couple has long engaged in one of the most bitter Hollywood divorces, including an attack earlier this week in which Richards denied sending an e-mail requesting a sperm donation from Sheen.
Appearing on the "Today Show" Wednesday morning, Richards told host Matt Lauer that the supposed e-mail sent to Sheen's then-girlfriend and now-fiance Brooke Mueller is bogus.
"That e-mail is not legitimate," said Richards, whose new reality show, "Denise Richards: It's Complicated," premieres on E! on Memorial Day. "It's a doctored e-mail. I would never send an e-mail to his ... girlfriend, and, at the time of that e-mail, I was with Richie [Sambora]. If I wanted anybody's sperm, I'd have asked for Richie's."
Upon hearing that Richards would be appearing on the show, Sheen issued a statement to the program addressing his ex-wife's side of the story.
"Her claims that her e-mail has been fabricated or altered in any way to create this story are absurd," the actor said. "The mere fact the she continues to publicly discuss and harass both Brooke and me three years after our separation which, for the record is longer than the actual length of the marriage, is beyond desperate and speaks volumes."
