HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Dennis Hopper has joined the growing cast for the upcoming Starz series based on the Oscar-winning film "Crash."

Hopper, 72, will play a veteran maverick music producer looking for his last big score, according to The Hollywood Reporter. He most recently starred in the NBC series "E-Ring."

Hopper joins previously announced cast members Luis Chavez, Arlene Tur, Brian Tee and Jocko Sims for the small-screen version, which will feature a different group of characters than the movie.

Chavez, whose previous credits include the feature "Ocean's Thirteen," will portray a poor immigrant who makes the difficult journey to America.

Tur will appear as a former actress who becomes an LAPD officer after she researches a role and ends up falling in love with police work. She will be joined by McCall, who is a fellow cop more interested in joyriding than his job.

Tee stars as a Korean-American immigrant who became an EMT, while Sims is a driver for Hopper's character.

The 13-episode, one-hour series will be the first original drama series for Starz.

The series will have the help of several key members from the film, including director, co-writer and producer, Paul Haggis. Also assisting on the TV version will be co-writer and producer Bobby Moresco, producer Bob Yari, producer Don Cheadle, producer Mark R. Harris and executive producer Tom Nunan.

Set in Los Angeles, the film was an examination of the complexities of racial tolerance. Cheadle was also a star on screen, along with Sandra Bullock, Matt Dillon, Jennifer Esposito, Brendan Fraser, Terrence Howard, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Thandie Newton and Ryan Philippe.

In addition to best picture, the 2004 film also won Oscars for best original screenplay and for editing.
