NEW YORK —Don Imus shocked his listeners Monday morning, revealing that he's battling stage two prostate cancer.
The controversial radio host said he was diagnosed last Wednesday.
"The day you find out is fine," he said. "But the next morning when you get up, your knees are shaking. I didn't think I could make it to work."
Despite the sudden shock, Imus said he's hopeful of making a full recovery.
"I don't want to have great arrogance about it, but I have great doctors," he said. "I'll be fine. And if I'm not fine, it's no big deal."
Imus made headlines in 2007 when he made a racial slur while referring to the Rutgers women's basketball team. While he later apologized, the incident led to him being fired by CBS Radio and MSNBC.
He currently works for ABC Radio Networks and cable's RFD-TV.
