HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Elisabeth Hasselbeck has apologized to Erin Andrews after she slammed the ESPN reporter's attire on Dancing With the Stars.
Speaking on Wednesday's The View, Hasselbeck issued a public apology, one day after she said Andrews shouldn't be "wearing next to nothing" in light of her well-publicized stalker case. The controversial host tearfully recalled a conversation she had with her 5-year-old daughter at home after making the comment on yesterday's show.
"She's so cute, she said to me, 'Mommy, why don't you just call Erin and tell her you're sorry?' " Hasselbeck said. "So, thankfully, I listened to her — she's a wise little girl — and I did. So, I'm really sorry, and I wanted to offer that publicly too, even though I did follow that advice."
In March, Michael David Barrett, 48, of Illinois was sentenced to 30 months in prison for stalking Andrews and secretly filming nude footage of her from a hotel room peephole.
"I think in light of what happened and as illegal and as inexcusable as it was for that guy to peep on her in her hotel room, in some ways, if I'm that guy, I'm like, 'man, I just could've waited 12 weeks and seen this—a little bit less—without the prison time,' " Hasselbeck said Tuesday.
Andrews reacted after last night's show by calling the remarks a "slap in the face to victims of stalking and sexual predators."
"The thing that I was most upset about is I felt she was mocking the situation," she said. "As a mother and a woman, I'm disappointed she went there."
