HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Drew Barrymore has landed one of Hollywood's top young actresses for her directing debut.
Barrymore's film "Whip It!" will star "Juno" actress Ellen Page, the Daily Variety reported on Wednesday.
The 20-year-old Page will play a Texas teen who is always being pushed into entering beauty pageants. But she winds up finding herself after joining a roller derby team, the trade paper said.
"I can't wait to kick ass on wheels!" the Canadian actress was quoted as saying in a statement.
The $10 million film, set up at independent financier Mandate Pictures, is expecting to begin shooting in the summer. Page is likely to schedule another project beforehand, Daily Variety said.
Page's performance as a wisecracking pregnant teen in "Juno," which has earned about $72 million at the North American box office, has been extremely well-received by critics. The comedy, which was also financed by Mandate, is expected to garner several Oscar nominations when Hollywood's top awards are announced on Tuesday.
