HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Judd Apatow appears to turn out more movies than cars coming off the General Motors production line.
The super producer is back in the news with the announcement that he has lined up the film "Five-Year Engagement." The Universal comedy will reunite producers Apatow and Shauna Robertson with the team behind the upcoming comedy "Forgetting Sarah Marshall."
Jason Segel, 28, will star and co-write the film's script with Nick Stoller, 31, who will also direct the project. The duo met while working on Apatow's television series "Undeclared."
True the title, the film will trace the five-year engagement of a man (Segel) and his fiancée, following the couple's ups and downs along the way.
"It's definitely an extension of our desire to explore the depth of human misery," Stoller tells Variety. "If Sarah Marshall (played by Kristen Bell) and Jason's character had stayed together, this might be the sequel."
Segel, who stars on the CBS comedy "How I Met Your Mother," recently signed on to co-star with Paul Rudd in the DreamWorks comedy "I Love You, Man."
Stoller, meanwhile, has several writing projects lined up, including "Step Dude" for Paramount and "Opposite Day" for DreamWorks.
The ultra-busy Apatow, 40, the man behind hits "The 40-Year-Old Virgin," "Knocked Up," and "Superbad," now has more than 10 projects slated for release within the next two years.
