HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Robert Pattinson says the madness surrounding him these days has left him a little hard of hearing.
"It is a little nuts," the 22-year-old actor told Access Hollywood at Monday night's "Twilight" movie premiere in Westwood, Calif. "It's been like this for a week now! I've gone deaf!"
The hysteria surrounding the young star hit a fever pitch in San Francisco last week. Pattinson was scheduled to sign autographs at a Hot Topic store located inside the city's Stonestown Galleria mall, but a large crowd of teenagers began lining up in the morning in anticipation of his evening appearance. Police officials later cancelled the event due to the size of the crowd.
Pattinson says the pandemonium is more about his "Twilight" character Edward Cullen than himself.
"Well, they're in love with the character," he explained to Access of the fan hoopla. "I really don't claim anything ... Everyone always says, 'I'm in love with you' and I'm like, 'Why?' "
While some "Twilight" fanatics initially questioned the casting of the "Harry Potter" actor, series author Stephanie Meyer told Access they got over it rather quickly.
"It wasn’t about [Robert], it was about the fact that they had already cast [the character] in their minds, so they're thinking, 'But this isn't who I picture,' " she explained. "I think everybody warmed up [to him] pretty fast."
"The part that they don't know yet, is that he's so insanely talented. I just can't wait to watch his career from here 'cause I think he can do anything," added Meyer.
