CHARLOTTE, N.C. — American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino has been released from the hospital after she overdosed on aspirin and a sleep aid.
The 26-year-old singer headed home Wednesday, two days after emergency crews were called to her North Carolina residence around 9 p.m.
"She has been lifted up by the outpouring of love and support from her fans," her manager, Brian Dickens said. "She is more committed than ever to her daughter and her work because they are her heart, her soul and inspiration."
The medical scare took place shortly after Fantasia's personal life made headlines with news she's been involved with a married man named Antwaun Cook. The man's wife, Paula Cook, filed a complaint last Wednesday in Mecklenburg County District Court, accusing the twosome of having an affair and making sex tapes of their adventures together.
Fantasia has admitted to dating Cook for about 11 months, but said she was under the impression his marriage was over. She also apologized, saying she was "heartbroken" and "sorry for any pain she may have caused."
"Fantasia is a fighter and a survivor," Dickens said earlier this week. "This is not the hardest thing Fantasia has endured. Fantasia will be stronger, smarter, and better for it. Her work has always inspired her and served as a source of strength."
