Final 'Harry Potter' Book May Be Made Into Two Movies

LONDON — It just might take two full-length movies to do justice to the final "Harry Potter" book from British author J.K. Rowling, Hollywood sources say.

Crew members currently working on the film adaptation of Rowling's novel, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," have said the final book of her magical series, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," will be released as two films, according to a report in British newspaper the Daily Mail Sunday.

The sources said the reason for breaking the book into two films is to respect the artistic vision of the literary work and is not aimed at cashing in on the highly-profitable series.

"There's so much to fit that the view is the last movie should be in two halves," one anonymous source said. "There is a huge battle when Harry, played by Daniel Radcliffe, takes on Voldemort that needs to be done really well."

With each book growing more complex than the previous, moviemakers were forced to leave out significant parts of the books when making the movies. Many fans revolted when "The Order of the Phoenix" (nearly 900 pages) and "The Goblet of Fire" (over 700) were compressed into single films.

Reports surfaced prior to the filming of "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" that that film could be split, but nothing ever came of it.

Another claim made by the newspaper is that a high-profile director like Steven Spielberg is being sought out for the final film in hopes of making it an Oscar-caliber movie.

The British newspaper said that to date, the first five "Harry Potter" films have earned nearly $4.9 billion in box office sales.
