Former 'Idol Star' Paris Bennett Announces She's Engaged and Pregnant

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Former "American Idol" star Paris Bennett is engaged and pregnant.

"Yes, I'm engaged and with child; a girl and her name will be Egypt," the 19-year-old singer wrote on her MySpace blog. "She will be here in October just before the holiday album."

Bennett earned the nickname "Princess P" when she appeared on the Fox reality show's fifth season in 2006.

"I'm proud of how she did it. I was 16 when I got pregnant," her mother, Jamecia Bennett, told the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

As for the baby's father, "He chooses not to be in the public eye," Bennett's mother said, adding she "can't tell" what he does for a living.

"She has a ring," she confirmed, however.

Bennett's mother also told the paper that Queen Latifah plans to spoil the future arrival and may attend the baby shower in August.

"You're the princess, but I'm the Queen," Bennett said Latifah told her daughter.

Paris Bennett released her debut album, "Princess P," in 2007.
