HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — The mystery surrounding George Clooney's broken hand has been revealed, although the story isn't half as exciting as the tabloid tales.
Several British publications have been reporting that Clooney suffered the injury while riding his Harley Davidson around with his new girlfriend, Elisabetta Canalis, sparking memories of his motorcycle crash two years ago with ex-lover Sarah Larson.
Clooney and his new squeeze were said to be cruising around Lake Lugano, at the border of Italy and Switzerland, when the accident happened a couple weeks ago, but the star's rep has revealed that the broken hand happened under far less glamorous circumstances.
"There was an accident and he did break his hand," publicist Stan Rosenfield said Thursday. "He was not riding a motorcycle, it was not in Switzerland ... He was on his property in Italy and he shut the car door on his hand."
The 49-year-old Clooney was treated at a private clinic near his home and expects to be around for many more years to come.
"The doctor has given him 30-40 years more to live, and no live animals were harmed during the wrapping of the hand," said his rep.
