George Lucas Bringing New 'Star Wars' to Theaters and TV

By Rich King on February 11, 2008

George Lucas, pictures, picture, photos, photo, pics, pic, images, image, hot, sexy, latest, newHOLLYWOOD, Calif. — George Lucas apparently isn't ready to say goodbye to his treasured "Star Wars" series.

After saying that "Revenge of the Sith" would be his final "Star Wars" film, Lucas announced today that he is releasing a new animated film titled "Star Wars: The Clone Wars." Lucasfilm Ltd. and the Warner Bros. film studio made the joint announcement, saying the latest installment will hit theaters on August 15.

The new film, which will be produced by Lucasfilm Animation, will also be followed by a cable series in the fall on the Cartoon Network and TNT. Each TV episode will be like a 30-minute "mini-movie" with Jedi Knights battling villains such as Count Dooku and General Grievous.

"I felt there were a lot more 'Star Wars' stories left to tell," Lucas said in a statement. "I was eager to start telling some of them through animation and, at the same time, push the art of animation forward."

"Star Wars" first hit movie screens in 1977, launching one of the most successful franchises in Hollywood history. "Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith," was released in 2005 and was the sixth installment of the series.
