HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Long considered one of the most beautiful women on the planet, Halle Berry says motherhood has made holding onto that title a difficult chore.
"Having a baby takes so much from you," the 42-year-old actress tells Harper's Bazaar. "It's the most glorious thing you'll ever do, but the aftermath is not so glorious! So now I'm having to exercise, eat a little bit differently, take a lot more vitamins."
While she's had to buckle down on her diet and fitness regime, Berry isn't complaining about her 1-year-old daughter, Nahla, with model beau Gabriel Aubry. In fact, Berry says her fear of the paparazzi has made for quite the closet in her daughter's room.
"I buy baby clothes online," she tells the mag of her guilty pleasure. "Nahla can't wear all the clothes I've bought, and we don't go anywhere because I can't deal with the paparazzi. Gabriel's always like, 'She doesn't even leave the house! Halle, you've got to stop.' "
As for getting pregnant again, Berry says her first experience went so well she's ready for more.
"I was happy that whole time, I felt good, I had energy, I was like Superwoman," the Oscar winner says of her pregnancy. "I wish I could feel like that for the rest of my life, that's how fantastic it was."
Also fantastic is the life Berry envisions for her daughter now that the U.S. has its first African-American president in Barack Obama.
"Nahla will grow up in a completely different America," she says. "Obama is someone who's more like her than not, who shares her history."
"Hopefully she'll grow up in a world where it'll be easier than I had it," adds Berry. "I had a rough time. I was accused of stuffing the ballot box for my high school prom-queen election because they couldn't believe the only black girl in the school won."
