HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Heidi Fleiss was arrested and charged with possession of prescription drugs and driving under the influence outside Las Vegas yesterday.
According to a statement released by Nevada's Nye County Sheriff's office, police arrested the former Hollywood madam shortly after 9 a.m. in the town of Pahrump.
"During the investigation she was found to have prescription narcotics on her person, not in a prescription bottle, and could produce no evidence that the prescription pain medication had been prescribed to her," police said in a press release. "She was arrested and transported to [jail]."
John Owen, a passenger in the car, also was arrested for possession of marijuana and being under the influence of a controlled substance.
Fleiss told Reuters that she was driving Owen, who is a plumber, to a hardware store when they were stopped by police in a parking lot.
She admitted to having Vicodin in her possession, saying she has a prescription for the pain killer, only it was not on her at the time.
"I'm squeaky clean this time," said Fleiss, who revealed she must appear in court and verify the prescription.
In 1997, Fleiss was convicted in connection with her prostitution ring with charges including pandering and tax evasion. Her prostituion ring was known to cater to many Hollywood celebrities.
Fleiss recently moved to Nevada, where she has been planning to open a legal brothel.
